Microboards Technology Inc. has designed a $7,995 eight-bay CD-recordable replicator and a $9,995 four-drive desktop CD-R publisher for offices with integrated multimedia systems. The DSR8800 CD recorder-replicator comes in a tower configuration and hosts seven CD-R drives plus one 12X CD-ROM drive. In master-slave mode, users can configure the DSR8800 with up to three seven-drive CD-R slave units. Each master can direct as many as 28 recorders at the same time.

systems.
The DSR8800 CD recorder-replicator comes in a tower configuration and hosts seven CD-R
drives plus one 12X CD-ROM drive. In master-slave mode, users can configure the DSR8800
with up to three seven-drive CD-R slave units. Each master can direct as many as 28
recorders at the same time.
Users can daisychain 10 of the masters to record and replicate hundreds of CD-ROMs at
once.
The unit is upgradeable for digital video disk duplication, for which each of its three
Versatile Media Interface Channel slot cards supports two external DVD recorders. Its
direct SCSI interface records from a PC to the target writers in the DSR8800, eliminating
the need for a separate external recorder for CDs.
Microboards distributes the four-drive desktop CD-R publisher made by Cedar
Technologies of Edina, Minn., which integrates publishing hardware and software with a
printer.
The Cedar unit has four 4X CD-recorders, a Signature CD color printer from Fargo
Electronics Inc. of Eden Prairie, Minn., a Cedar autoloader, two CD holders and other
components. The CD-R publisher comes with multiformat premastering and duplication
software.
Agencies can buy the products from Microboards of Chanhassen, Minn., through resellers
Daly Computers Inc. and Planet Technologies, both of Gaithersburg, Md. The Geological
Survey and NASA use Microboards products.
