SecuGen fingerprint device can store and perform fast search on 10,000 users.

The FBI has certified a fingerprint-capture device from SecuGen as compliant with Federal Information Processing Standard 201 and Personal Identity Verification requirements, SecuGen announced today.SecuGen's SDA04 consists of a fingerprint sensor and processing board that can store and perform fast 1:N search on 10,000 users, the company said.FIPS 201 puts stringent requirements on the image quality produced by fingerprint devices as established by the FBI's Image Quality Specifications.The SDA04 module uses template extraction and matching algorithms that have passed the National Institute of Standards and Technology Minutiae Interoperability Exchange Test (MINEX).All SecuGen fingerprint devices feature a platen made from glass that is harder than window glass and nearly scratch-proof, SecuGen said.'FIPS 201 is an important milestone for the biometrics industry, setting rigorous standards for the quality and performance of both fingerprint hardware and software, which we are proud to offer our partners in the SDA04,' said Dan Riley, vice president of engineering for SecuGen. 'The FBI's PIV testing ensures excellent image quality ofthe fingerprint hardware, while NIST's MINEX testing ensures accuracy and interoperability of fingerprint template extraction and matching algorithms. I believe that, over time, industry will come to adopt FIPS 201 requirements because they provide objective, third-party certification against rigorous standards.'
