Dell Software addresses agency needs in BYOD, big data and security

Dell Software recently announced new tools for mobility management, security and business intelligence.
Dell Software offered IT managers a set of tools for three of their most pressing enterprise hotspots: mobility management, enterprise security and business analytics.
Dell announced a set of new apps to address all three priorities as well as several integrated software packages. The announcements are designed to tie-in components of the company’s mobility and bring-your-own-device tools as well as to continue the integration of its network security and identity management technologies, Dell said.
In the mobile enterprise, Dell is building on earlier announcements to supply a unified solution for mobility device management, mobile application management, mobile content management and Secure Remote Access gateway through SonicWALL to establish secure endpoints.
Each component can be deployed separately or used together for an end-to-end mobility management solution. The software is designed to work to enforce policies in a variety of environments commonly found in BYOD deployments, Dell said, including iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, Windows and Linux-based desktops and tablets, thin- and zero-client workstations and virtual machines that exist in the cloud.
For smartphones that are owned by the government instead of the user, the software package goes an extra step, creating a secure, managed environment, enabling administrators to view and manage all their devices from one location − including destroying data if the devices are lost or stolen. The complete Dell mobility package will be sold as an annual software subscription license starting in early 2014.
In the area of security, all of Dell's offerings will build on existing products and integrate them into single, deployable packages. For example, SonicWALL’s network security, secure mobile access and email security solutions will now combine to contribute greater information to the SonicWALL Global Response Intelligent Defense network, which gathers input from millions of sensors and informs users whenever trouble is brewing.
With insider threats being a hot topic in the wake of the Snowden breach, Dell is integrating the InTrust 10.7 software with Dell SecureWorks to complement intelligent data feeds that capture crucial aspects of user activity on Windows systems, detecting internal threats in less time and with less overhead. In addition, the connection of the Privileged Password Manager software and Privileged Access Suite for Unix with InTrust 10.7 will let agencies correlate a users’ privileged activity with their general user activity for a full picture of what they are actually doing with their access. All security programs and integrations are available now.
For big data analysis, Dell is hopping up its Toad offerings. The Dell Toad Business Intelligence Suite is designed to work with all user skill levels to analyze and share data from almost any source. The new integrated suite includes Toad Intelligence Central, which allows users to combine data across multiple sources, locations and formats. Toad Data Point is used for analytic data provisions and Toad Decision Point works for business analysis. All Toad programs are available now.
