The government last month added two more financial management packages to its schedule of approved general ledger accounting software. Financial management packages from PeopleSoft Inc. and SAP America Public Sector and Education Inc. earned places on the General Services Administration's Financial Management System Software Schedule. That brings to 11 the number of vendors offering financial management packages approved for federal use in core accounting systems.
The government last month added two more financial management packages to its schedule
of approved general ledger accounting software.
Financial management packages from PeopleSoft Inc. and SAP America Public Sector and
Education Inc. earned places on the General Services Administrations Financial
Management System Software Schedule. That brings to 11 the number of vendors offering
financial management packages approved for federal use in core accounting systems.
After clearing one of the largest hurdles in the public sector in about
eight months, SAP secured an FMSS Schedule contract for its SAP R/3 software, said Robert
Salvucci, president of SAP America Public Sector and Education of Washington.
GSA also certified PeopleSoft Financials for Education and Government, which includes
general ledger, payables, inventory, budgets, receivables and purchasing modules.
Agencies previously could buy the PeopleSoft and SAP packages from the Federal Supply
Service, but because the packages were not yet certified, agencies could not use them in
core accounting systems.
The FMSS contract remains mandatory for core accounting systems only through Sept. 30,
however. After that, agencies will go to the Federal Supply Services Information
Technology Schedule to buy products that meet Joint Financial Management Improvement
Program requirements.
To complement its packaged financial management software, PeopleSoft of Pleasanton,
Calif., will sell additional modules that handle enterprise performance management, asset
management and billing, company officials said.
The newly released PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management suite brings together
financial and operational data but goes well beyond activity-based costing,
said Jon Klem, vice president and general manager of PeopleSoft Federal.
PeopleSofts Enterprise Performance Management suite integrates financial
managements efficiency measures with program managements emphasis on
timeliness, quality and customer satisfaction, Klem said. The performance
suite, which does online analytical processing, supports OLAP tools from partner companies
Ardent Software Inc. of Westborough, Mass., Informatica Corp. of Palo Alto, Calif., and
Prism Solutions Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif.
The PeopleSoft application suite works not only with PeopleSofts transaction
accounting software but also with legacy financial systems and other vendors
enterprise resource planning applications, Klem said.
PeopleSoft partnered with KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, the professional services firm, in
developing the performance management software.
