Compaq Computer Corp. has added to its Alpha line the AlphaServer DS10 with a 466-MHz Alpha 21264 CPU.The AlphaServer DS10 can run Compaq's Tru64 Unix and OpenVMS, Linux or Microsoft Windows NT.It has four PCI slots and up to 29G of internal disk storage.The starting price for a DS10 with 64M of memory, a 10G hard drive and 2M of Level 2 cache is $3,500.Output Technology Corp.'s PrintStation 60/70 small-footprint, tractor-feed printers have 18-pin print heads.The output speeds for the printers is 600 to 840 characters per second. Each PrintStation can handle up to eight-part forms in administrative and logistics environments.The Spokane, Wash., company's printers have auto-thickness sensing, a straight paper path and optional switching paths. The printers, priced from $2,100, are compatible with systems running Windows 9x.DataDirect Networks Inc. of Chelmsford, Mass., has released a bundle of hardware, software, services and technical support for building storage area networks.Called Sands, the product incorporates data-sharing software from Mercury Computer Systems Inc. plus Fibre Channel host bus adapters, switches, hubs and cabling. DataDirect representatives assess a Sands buyer's needs for secondary and front-end storage, and other components of a SAN.Sands works with Unix, NT and Apple Mac OS, according to the Chatsworth, Calif., company. Pricing starts at $5,500.Plasmon IDE has combined a network-attached storage device with a DVD-RAM library to create a high-capacity, rewritable storage system.The AutoTower has a 9G hard drive for caching frequently used files to minimize robotic movements within the DVD-RAM jukebox. The tower plugs into 10/100-Mbps Ethernet, asynchronous transfer mode or token-ring networks via a standard RJ-45 connector.Users can access the storage device from networks running NT, Novell NetWare or Unix. A systems administrator can manage it remotely from a Web browser.A two-drive, 120-slot system begins at about $15,000, representatives of the Eden Prairie, Minn., company said. The system's General Services Administration schedule reseller is Karcher Group of Chantilly, Va.The latest release of the PerformanceWorks software suite includes two new Smart-Agents plus a performance-modeling application, batch-reporting capability and Web browser support.PerformanceWorks 3.0 from Landmark Systems Corp. of Reston, Va., now has SmartAgents for Informix Corp. databases and Digital Unix.The Smart-Agents collect performance data about platforms and databases and store it in a common format.A batch-reporting tool can send reports to users at scheduled intervals. SmartWatch, with which systems administrators can measure users' application response times, works through Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers.A typical PerformanceWorks 3.0 pilot configuration starts at around $30,000.The Magnitude XL-2800, XIOtech Corp.'s storage area network product, combines a four-port Fibre Channel switch and a high-performance RAID controller with a logical volume manager.The 288G capacity can expand to 1.6T, and Fibre Channel connectivity can be doubled to eight ports.The XL-2800's standard configuration includes a 32-bay drive cabinet, four Magnitude host adapter boards, a four-server PCI host adapter board and power supplies. XIOtech's real-time storage architecture uses intelligent virtual disks to map data across all the physical drives.The XL-2800 starts at about $52,000 on the Eden Prairie, Minn., company's schedule contract.DBT Online Inc. has expanded its online anti-crime service, AutoTrackXP, into a secure Web site, at .
