Silanis Technology Inc. of Montreal has released a version of its ApproveIt electronic signature application for use with Extensible Markup Language forms from JetForm Corp. of Ottawa.

Users of ApproveIt for FormFlow 99 also can drag and drop signature fields into existing FormFlow 99 forms. The signature fields can insert dynamic information such as time, date and title for each signing.

Just a click away

When a user accesses an ApproveIt-enabled form on an intranet or a Web site, a 'click to sign' message appears. The user signs by clicking on the box and entering a password.

A digital facsimile of the user's signature appears in the field. A checkmark beside it indicates it is valid; a crossed-through signature means that linked content has changed and the signature no longer is valid.

When someone accesses an ApproveIt-enabled form for the first time, a thin version of ApproveIt automatically downloads to the PC. The person can supply a signature image via a personal digital assistant, a scanner or a digitized tablet, or can fax a signature on paper to Silanis to supply a digital image. The software creates a public-private key pair, and the user selects a password to go with the signature image.

The $149 ApproveIt package works with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; Adobe Acrobat; and XML forms from PureEdge Solutions Inc. of Concord, Calif.
