The Navy, Army and Army National Guard recently awarded multimillion-dollar contracts for midsize to large-scale IT projects. And an Air Force command is deploying a new system for wireless LANs.
Computer Sciences Corp. won a $23.8 million contract to provide IT and system engineering support services to the Office of Naval Research's Best Manufacturing Practices Center of Excellence. The five-year task order requires CSC to help ONR identify and solve technical problems, provide application programming, and supply Web site development and hosting. The College Park, Md., center is one of several technical centers of excellence within ONR.
The Army will pay SBC Southwestern Bell Co. of St. Louis $13.2 million to build a Gigabit Ethernet network at Fort Eustis, Va., and to upgrade the administrative communications system at Fort Benning, Ga.
Voice over IP
The delivery orders are part of the Army's ongoing Digital Switched Systems Modernization Program and are to be completed in two years.
A portion of the upgrade at Fort Benning will include voice over IP. The Gigabit Ethernet network at Fort Eustis will let desktop PC users communicate in real time, SBC officials said.
The Army National Guard awarded a $12 million contract to CACI International Inc. of Arlington, Va., to develop and maintain enterprisewide personnel, financial and logistical data management systems.
The Consolidated Software Maintenance contract includes software applications that track personnel records, manage Guard budgets and monitor supply distribution. CACI will design, develop, integrate, test, implement and provide training on the new systems.
The Air Force's Air Mobility Command, headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., acquired the ReefEdge Connect System from ReefEdge Inc. of Fort Lee, N.J., to enhance security and mobility in its wireless LAN deployments at air transportation centers worldwide. The command is the air component of the Transportation Command and the air mobility manager for all the armed services.
