director of the IT Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will retire April 2.Mehuron joined NIST in 1999 from Unisys Corp., taking over planning and implementing the IT portion of NIST's Advanced Technology Program. From 1995 to 1999, he was with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as director of system acquisitions and, from 1997 to 1998, as acting deputy undersecretary.Earlier in his career, he worked for the National Security Agency. While at NSA, he was awarded the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award for excellence in systems acquisition management and leadership. He said he plans to remain in the Washington area and work in IT. has moved his CIO title from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to the Transportation Security Administration.Schambach joined the Transportation Department organization last month, after more than four years as ATF's systems chief.The new DOT agency last month assumed all airport security functions, including oversight of systems for screening passengers and baggage. Schambach joined ATF in November 1996 as deputy CIO. He took over as CIO in August 1997.Before joining ATF, Schambach worked for more than 24 years at the Secret Service, where he headed the Information Resources Management Division.The Senate has confirmed as deputy director of the Office of Personnel Management. President Bush nominated Blair Dec. 20. Blair formerly was senior counsel to Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) on the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee. a 15-year IT veteran at Transportation, is leaving his post as director of the Value-Added Niche IT Services Program. He will join InfoPro Inc. of Silver Spring, Md., as vice president for business development.
