FGIPC honors Army deputy CIO; 13 projects also lauded

NEW ORLEANS'Dave Borland, deputy CIO for the Army, on Monday received the John Franke Award for his contribution to the federal IT community from the Federation of Government Information Processing Councils at the Management of Change Conference.

Borland works on several Army projects, including the enterprise architecture, network security and the knowledge online program. He has been a member of FGIPC for 10 years.
FGIPC honors members who contribute to the IT community within their agency and throughout the federal government. The award was named after the late Franke, who was a former assistant secretary for administration at the Agriculture Department.
This was one of many awards FGIPC gave out Monday. The council also presented 13 local, state and federal government projects with Intergovernmental Solutions Awards for involving two or more levels of government in delivering services to the public.

FedBizOpps, the General Services Administration's one-stop Web site for solicitations
Kansas Online Trucking Portal and Motor Carrier, which lets Kansas truckers and motor carriers apply and receive permits online
My.nbii.gov Web portal, a National Biological Information Infrastructure site that links databases between government and nongovernment entities
Flood Alert Training Station, a National Biological Information Infrastructure site that provides training for insurance agents
Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support, which lets Defense Department buyers automate the entire logistics process
A food safety Web portal, under which the Food and Drug Administration and Agriculture Department combine to provide food safety information
Transportation Virtual University, which provides distance learning for federal, state and local government officials
Renewal Communities, Empowerment Zone/Enterprise Community Software, which reduces the paperwork and administrative burdens between federal and state agencies
JNet, which provides access to 5,000 law enforcement officials to Pennsylvania's offender database
EArmyU, a Web site that lets DOD personnel take postsecondary education classes online
Resource Ordering and Status System, the National Wildlife Coordination Group's portal that automates information exchange between firefighters and other wildlife personnel
Recreation.gov, the Interior Department's one-stop portal for information on national and state parks
Random Motor Vehicle Registration Inquiry, a New Jersey State Police system for checking vehicle registrations.
