Researchers at the Energy Department's <b>Oak Ridge National Laboratory</b> in Oak Ridge, Tenn., have won three of R&D magazine's R&D 100 awards.

The magazine annually selects 100 projects as the most significant innovations of the year. ORNL has won 112 of the R&D awards since their inception in 1963, second only to General Electric Co. has joined CACI International Inc. to lead space operations and systems support organization.Anarde is a former director of plans and programs for the Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. He'll work at CACI's Colorado Springs, Colo., offices.The is accepting nominations for its outstanding contributor of the year awards, to be presented in November at the 2002 Executive Leadership Conference in Hershey, Pa. The award-winning projects were:

  • The Any Source, Any Position Fluid Handler, developed by Mitch Doktycz of the lab's Life Sciences Division, Steven Hicks of the Engineering Science and Technology Division and Innovadyne Technologies Inc. of Santa Rosa, Calif.

  • The ORNL Spiral Notch Torsion Test, developed by Jy-An Wang of the Nuclear Science and Technology Division, Ken Liu of the Metals and Ceramics Division and Inventure Laboratories Inc. of Knoxville, Tenn.

  • The Defect Source Identifier-Automated Image Retriever, developed by Ken Tobin, Tom Karnowski and Regina Ferrell of the Engineering Science and Technology Division, and Applied Materials Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif.
