'Tonight we celebrate 20 years of government IT challenges and successes,' Browning said. 'We should put together a time capsule to be opened in 20 years by the next award recipients.'
Miriam Browning, the recently retired principal director of enterprise integration in the Army CIO Office, joined the GCN Hall of Fame this week at Post Newsweek Tech Media's awards gala in Washington. 'Tonight we celebrate 20 years of government IT challenges and successes,' Browning said. 'We should put together a time capsule to be opened in 20 years by the next award recipients.'She said the capsule should include autographed copies of the Brooks and Clinger-Cohen acts, the history of the rise and fall of the Army Information Systems Command, final agency grades for year 2000 remediation and a list of all of the government systems that were killed.'I'm deeply honored,' Browning said. 'It's about the team, the federal IT community.' She thanked her husband, Ben, for his support.As director of enterprise integration, Browning handled policy and oversight of Army IT programs. Before that, she was director for the Center for Information Management at the National Academy of Public Administration. She said the Army has been a federal leader in government transformation by pushing to 'look at IT at the enterprise level.'One example is the Army Knowledge Online portal, Browning said. AKO consolidates news, briefings, a job bank, weather reports, school and benefits information, and other service-related information. 'AKO is the single enterprise by which we can conduct business on a daily basis,' Browning said. 'It's in a secure network, it's easy to get to. This is just doing what companies do.'
