Science Applications International Corp. has issued a solicitation for hardware and software products to support the Global Information Grid-Bandwidth Expansion program.

SAIC, working as a prime contractor under the Defense Information Systems Network Global Solutions Contract, released a request for proposals for four equipment areas: core and edge IP routers, multiservice provisioning platforms, optical transport systems and optical digital cross connect switches.

The RFP, which includes technical specifications in each of the four equipment areas, can be found at www.dss-global.com.

Around September, SAIC expects to award up to four Defense Global Solutions subcontracts for products and services. The subcontracts will be fixed-price, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity for up to seven one-year renewable options.

Proposals are due by June 23.

In March, the Defense Information Systems Agency issued a RFP for a switched optical network to support 10-Gbps, OC-192 connections for GIG-BE. Through the program, DISA plans to roll out a ground-based voice, data and image backbone to expand the availability of high-capacity bandwidth to DOD users worldwide.

DOD estimates it will spend $877 million on GIG-BE, which initially will serve 90 sites around the world and ultimately users throughout DOD.
