The Army completes the first phase in its deployment of the 10-year, $680 million Wholesale Logistics Modernization Program.<br>

The Army last week completed the first phase in its deployment of the 10-year, $680 million Wholesale Logistics Modernization Program, according to the lead contractor on the program.

Computer Sciences Corp. officials said it finished pilot deployments on July 7 at the Army's Communications and Electronics Command (CECOM) at Fort Monmouth, N.J.; Army Materiel Command headquarters in Alexandria, Va.; Tobyhanna Army Depot, Pa.; Army Security Assistance Command at Fort Belvoir, Va.; Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Arlington, Va.; and the Army's Soldier and Biological Chemical Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

The enterprise resource planning system, originally slated to begin operation in February, culls data from two 30-year-old mainframe databases, the Commodity Command Standard System and the Standard Depot System. The legacy Cobol systems process data in batches using flat files. LOGMOD is intended to track assets, orders and deliveries worldwide more quickly and accurately than the legacy systems.

The delays occurred as developers ironed out interface problems and subcontractor SAP America Inc. of Newtown Square, Pa., worked to customize the system, said Larry Asch, chief of the program's Business and Operations Office at CECOM.

'This ERP implementation is one of the largest and most complex ever,' said Paul Cofoni, president of CSC's Federal Section unit. 'The Logistics Modernization Program will result in a modern system that will deliver the Army's equipment and spare parts more efficiently and transparently than ever before.'
