The Army's Chief Information Office handed out seven awards this month during the 3rd Annual Army Knowledge Symposium at Valley Forge, Pa.
The awards went to programs that promote knowledge management across the Army enterprise and that incorporate process re-engineering, said Col. Jane Maliszewski, chief of strategic outreach. Maliszewski said the programs use technology to transform stovepiped systems.
The Army wants to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration on enterprise systems to enhance decision-making, Maliszewski said in a statement.
The awards were in seven categories:
Best Knowledge Transformation Initiative to Army Knowledge Online for the Knowledge Center Consortium, which supports transforming the Army to a net-centric force
Best Enterprise Solution to the Office of the Surgeon General for the Soldier Medical Readiness system, which shows soldiers their lab tests, examinations and vaccinations
Best Cross-Functional Solution to the Product Management Office-Secure Electronic Transactions. The Army is currently fielding more than 700,000 Common Access Card readers. The office's middleware can be remotely managed at an enterprise level and saves the Army 33 percent on its current middleware prices, the statement said.
Best e-Army Initiative to the Army Test and Evaluation Command's Developmental Test Command, whose DOD-wide Electronic Signature Management Information System lets users electronically sign and route any official document
Best Community of Practice to the Army Reserve, which has the largest set of communities in the AKO Collaboration Center. The Reserve built knowledge centers for its staff sections at Army Reserve Command headquarters and at regional support command headquarters, letting reservists on duty quickly communicate with their home stations.
Best e-Learning Initiative to the Army Education Division at the Total U.S. Army Personnel Command for its eArmyU portal, where soldiers can earn free college degrees online
AKM Pioneer Award to Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Elder, who established the Noncommissioned Officers Communities of Practice to coach and mentor noncommissioned officers prior to the AKO portal.
