At the Executive Leadership Conference, IAC and the American Council for Technology honor Howard Ady and more than 40 others who have worked to improve federal IT. <br>
HERSHEY, Pa.'During his 20 years with the federal government, Howard Ady helped organize the IT community. And in the five years since he left government to take an industry job, Ady has continued to encourage closer partnerships between the public and private sectors.For this dedication to the federal IT community, the American Council for Technology and the Industry Advisory Council yesterday honored Ady with the Janice K. Mendenhall Spirit of Leadership Award at IAC's Executive Leadership Conference 2003. ACT is the recently renamed Federation of Government Information Processing Councils [see ].'I've always felt the need to develop public- and private-sector IT employees,' said Ady, who worked for both the Defense Department and the Office of Personnel Management during his federal career. 'And now we have a great opportunity ahead of us to make ACT and IAC the IT organization of choice.'Ady, who now works for BearingPoint Inc. of McLean, Va., is the third person to receive the Mendenhall honor. Last year, FGIPC gave the award to Sandra Bates, commissioner of the General Services Administration's Federal Technology Service.'Ady brings out the best in everyone and has been a mentor to many,' IAC chairman Bob Woods said. 'His quick intelligence, integrity, loyalty and happy temperament'coupled with boundless energy'make him a distinct asset to any organization.'ACT and IAC also handed out 47 honors to other industry and government recipients:

- Dan Chenok, branch chief for the Office of Management and Budget's Office of Information Policy, received the Individual Contributor of the Year Award.
- Leslie Barry of Computer Associates International Inc., Joe Draham of GTSI Corp. of Chantilly, Va., and Chuck Viator of Cetacean Networks Inc. of Portsmouth, N.H., each received Industry Contributor of the Year awards.
- SiloSmashers Inc. of Vienna, Va., received the Small Business Corporate Contributor of the Year awards.
- Unisys Corp. received the Large Business Corporate Contributor of the Year Award.
- Ron Seward of Artel Inc. of Reston, Va., received the Chairman's Award.
- Forty federal and industry IT employees accepted recognition for completing the IT Partners Program, which aims to prepare agency and vendor workers for future management positions.
