A new working group will decide if the Office of Management and Budget's online federal architecture system is ready for prime time.

The working group, led by chief architect Robert Haycock, will evaluate the Federal Enterprise Architecture Management System to see what works well and what needs improvement. OMB wants to make FEAMS available governmentwide next month.

The working group's first meeting is scheduled for Thursday.

'From the feedback we will identify changes that need to be made to the application,' an OMB official said. 'Our objective is to work through this process quickly, make appropriate changes to the application and get it ready' for use this spring for fiscal 2006 budget preparation.

By letting agencies populate the system with data about their enterprise architecture efforts, OMB expects agencies will be able to use FEAMS to let agencies determine opportunities for cross-agency projects. The system will also let agencies get a view of IT investments governmentwide.

OMB already has run two tests of FEAMS, which the Housing and Urban Development Department originally developed for its own use.

Four agencies'the departments of Agriculture and Labor, and the Environmental Protection Agency and General Services Administration'participated in the first evaluation last year. OMB then did a second usability test at the departments of Health and Human Services, HUD and Interior, as well as the Agency for International Development, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, OMB and the Social Security Administration.
