The Education Department recently named <b>Susan Patrick</b> director of the Office of Educational Technology. Patrick has served as acting director since Feb. 2, when she replaced former director <b>John Bailey</b>, who left to join President Bush's re-election campaign.
The Education Department recently named director of the Office of Educational Technology. Patrick has served as acting director since Feb. 2, when she replaced former director , who left to join President Bush's re-election campaign.Patrick is responsible for coordinating programs and policies on technology, including implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act, virtual education and e-learning, student data management systems, online assessments and the National Education Technology Plan.Ret. Navy , former director of architectures and engineering for the Naval Network Warfare Command, is the new vice president of Defense strategic programs for DigitalNet Inc. of Herndon, Va.Whitkop recently retired after more than 25 years in the Navy. Besides his work at the Network Warfare Command, he also did a recent stint as deputy director of the ForceNet initiative, developing a strategy to integrate Navy programs under a common architecture.The IRS has named as industry director for communications, technology and media in its Large and Mid-Size Business Division, and as director of prefiling and technical guidance.Ng will direct services and enforcement to ensure that large and mid-size IT and media businesses comply with federal tax requirements.Ng succeeds , who will retire in June. Most recently, Ng, who joined the IRS in 1973, was director of prefiling and technical guidance.Petronchak succeeds Ng and will oversee developing nationwide programs, such as the prefiling agreement and industry issue resolution.She was deputy director of prefiling and technical guidance and director of field operations for retail, food, pharmaceuticals and health care.The Federal Aviation Administration has named to be its chief financial officer, a new position for the agency. Punwani will oversee FAA's $14 billion budget as well as the development of agencywide cost accounting and financial management systems.Punwani joins the agency from Cendant Corp. of New York, where he was senior vice president for global strategy.
