, who recently said he was headed for the State Department, is going to stay put at the General Services Administration.The deputy chief acquisition officer and senior procurement executive decided not to take a job with State's Office of Global AIDS Coordinator, after GSA officials asked him to stay.Drabkin has been with GSA since 2000 and before that worked at the Defense Department, where he helped implement the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act. recently said he will nominate to direct the National Science Foundation.Bement, acting director of the agency and of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, would have a six-year term, expiring in August 2010.The Senate must confirm Bement's nomination. While awaiting confirmation, he will continue to serve in both positions.He has been director of NIST since December 2001 and before that was chief of the School of Nuclear Engineering at Purdue University in Indiana.Additionally, Bement was director of the Midwest Superconductivity Consortium and the Consortium for the Intelligent Management of the Electrical Power Grid. He also worked for TRW Inc., the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and General Electric Co. of California, who's been waiting a year for Senate confirmation as Defense CIO, is now in line to take over as secretary of the Army.Bush this month nominated Harvey to replace , who resigned from the Army job last year.Harvey was nominated last year to replace as Defense CIO. The Senate Armed Services Committee questioned him in January and sent the CIO nomination to the floor for a full vote in February. But (R-Ariz.) held up Harvey's and other Defense confirmations to put pressure on DOD to turn over documents concerning the Air Force's multibillion-dollar Boeing Co. aircraft tanker deal., principal deputy assistant secretary and deputy CIO, has been filling in as acting Defense CIO. It is unclear whether Well will take over the job permanently or Bush will nominate another CIO candidate.Harvey is vice chairman of Duratek Inc. of Columbia, Md. He previously worked as chief operating officer of Westinghouse Electric Co.'s industries and technology group. He also was president of Northrop Grumman Corp.'s Westinghouse electronic systems group.
