Once you've scanned business cards or other files, NewSoft can help you manage the documents without a filing cabinet.The company's PageManager 6 is compliant with all the major scanning engines, so you can scan any paper document into editable files that you can back up on a disk or store on the PC.Scan Direct uses its own TWAIN-Express drivers to bypass a scanner's user interface and lets you scan directly to your fax machine, printer or even into an e-mail.You can then manage documents through a logically constructed software interface that can virtually stack files'so you can open a series of documents with one click. This makes finding a particular file fast and easy.The file stacking option is on the right side of PageManager's user interface. On the left, a subwindow lets you quickly browse your PC'it resembles Microsoft Windows Explorer's interface except for the added buttons on the top that let you scan into PageManager 6 or save documents to Adobe Portable Document Format extensions with one click.PageManager comes with an embedded Microsoft Office viewer that lets you browse a Microsoft Office file without launching the Office application. This also means you can view Office files using PageManager even if Office isn't installed.The interface has a toolbar on the bottom for quick launching of Word, Excel and Internet Explorer. This made it much simpler to use my PC.Another good point about the Presto PageManager 6 is its optical character recognition engine, which is robust enough to capture text as well as pictures.And once captured, you can annotate or alter documents and images in almost any fashion. You can add dictated audio files about certain documents, draw arrows to show relationships and even add virtual sticky notes. Furthermore, the convert-to-PDF capability makes it easy and safe to share documents.Affordably priced at $80, PageManager 6 is a good tool for anyone who wants to get rid of the paper and manage everything virtually. Our only suggestion is that you purchase a robust backup solution in case your hard drive crashes and you lose every file you own.
