The lead contracting team on the $10 billion Warfighter Information Network-Tactical program has demonstrated key technologies to the Army in the system design phase, according to the service.Army officials said the demonstration, which took place over the summer and featured software-defined radios and cellular, satellite and IP capabilities, marks a key milestone in the WIN-T program. General Dynamics Corp. and Lockheed Martin Corp. are the two contractors under the program.'The WIN-T tests are on track, on time and on schedule,' said Col. Angel Colon, the Army's program manager. 'These demonstrations show that we're ready for the imminent [development test/operational test].' Those tests are slated for November.Last year, the Army revised its WIN-T plan to deploy some capabilities to warfighters ahead of schedule. The Army plans to make WIN-T its tactical extension of DOD's Global Information Grid.Through the program, the service intends to roll out a high-speed, high-bandwidth infrastructure for wired and wireless voice, data, video and image communications for soldiers on the battlefield.The Missile Defense Agency has awarded a prime contract potentially worth $1 billion over 10 years to Northrop Grumman Corp. to continue work on the Joint National Integration Center Research and Development contract.Under the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract, Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems division of Reston, Va., will help the agency integrate missile defense elements into an operations defense system.Northrop Grumman will perform the work at the Joint National Integration Center at Shriver Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo.The Joint National Integration Center is the Defense Department's missile defense war game center for military commanders to develop operational concepts.Its expanded mission includes becoming a focal point for the integration, deployment and operation of the country's Ballistic Missile Defense System.The Navy has awarded a five-year, $161 million contract to Computer Sciences Corp. to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center-Corona Division, the company has announced.The company will provide program management and engineering services to assess the warfighting capability of ships and aircraft, including the suitability of design, performance of equipment and weapons, and adequacy of training.CSC also will provide project and financial management support, database and software maintenance, data conversion and other technical services for the Government Industry Data Exchange Program.
