The company's four new products are intended to give users more control over e-mail entering, leaving and residing on their systems.
Symantec introduced four new products this week to provide more control over e-mail content and help IBM Lotus users archive and retrieve e-mail messages.
Symantec's Mail Security Enterprise Edition contains integrated anti-virus, antispam and content-filtering capabilities.
The product particularly protects the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) gateway through which most Internet-based threats enter systems, company officials said.
To do that, the bundle includes the Symantec Mail Security 8200 Series appliance and Symantec Hosted Mail Security. For software, it runs Symantec Mail Security for SMTP, with the Premium AntiSpam option enabled, and Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam.
Symantec also released three new products for its E-mail Security and Availability solution. The additions provide more control over unauthorized and inappropriate e-mail content entering, leaving and residing in the system.
Symantec Mail Security 5.0 for Microsoft Exchange has more integrated security functions, particularly to detect nonviral attacks from adware and spyware.
The product also allows more flexible filtering policies and reporting, including permitting individual users and user groups to set filtering policies. And it delivers on-demand and scheduled status reports on system security and the amount of viruses, spam and content violations the system receives.
Archiving also has been improved. The product has increased interoperability with Symantec's Enterprise Vault and other e-mail archiving systems. Customers have real-time scanning of e-mail messages to stop unauthorized or inappropriate content, as defined by their policies, from leaving their networks.
The product then automatically and securely archives e-mail messages to meet regulatory and legal requirements for retaining documents.
Symantec Mail Security 5.0 for Domino now supports Domino 7 and has all the same additions as its Microsoft Exchange equivalent.
Symantec Enterprise Vault 6.0 Service Pack 1 brings Enterprise Vault's capabilities to IBM Lotus Notes users by automatically sending all e-mail traffic to a secure, central repository for electronic documents. The upgrade enables customers to data-mine the vault's contents.
