A child welfare organization in Ontario, Canada plans to deploy a consolidated social services management system that will replace seven separate systems.

A child welfare organization in Ontario, Canada plans to deploy a consolidated social services management system that will replace seven separate systems.

The Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies (OACAS) selected Curam Software for its Single Information System project. Curam, which developed social services management software, will provide its Curam Business Application Suite. The solution will reside on IBM xSeries hardware running Windows 2003 SP 1.

A spokesman for Curam said the new software will replace existing systems including CWIS and Frontline, which were written to support child protection in Ontario. The Single Information System project, according to Curam, will provide a common solution for Ontario's 53 Children's Aid Societies.

In Ontario, child welfare services are based in the community as opposed to being state operated, according to OACAS. OACAS provides information technology support to its member societies. The association receives funding
through membership fees and government grants among other sources.

OACAS will work with IBM to implement the Curam solution. The integrated case management portion of the solution will include intake, eligibility assessment and service planning. Curam also will provide a reporting application.

Three Children's Aid Societies will pilot the Single Information System. Based on test results, the project team will develop a plan to deploy the system to the remaining societies, Curam stated.

The Curam spokesman said the Ontario deployment is similar to Louisiana's A Comprehensive Enterprise Social Services System project, which includes case management for the state's Child Protection Services.
