Telelogic has expanded its enterprise architecture and business analysis software, offering a more complete modeling environment that integrates business processes with information technology functions.
The company updated its flagship software, System Architect 11.0, with three features: a new enterprise planning capability for improved analysis and planning; the new System Architect/Process Integrator, which provides integration between System Architect and Microsoft Visio; and integration between System Architect and Telelogic's Tau for implementing enterprise architecture-to-IT workflows.
The enhancements give organizations an integrated workflow framework to develop applications for service-oriented architecture and traditional environments.
In addition, the product updates offer a wider range of related user groups, including business analysts, executives, data architects and IT developers, and the ability to more fully participate in the process of establishing an enterprise architecture and moving to actual IT implementation, Telelogic officials said.
System Architect is the most widely used enterprise architecture product at government agencies surveyed recently by the Government Accountability Office. The Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation Agency; the Federal Emergency Management Agency; and the Air Force have all used the software.
IBM is in the process of acquiring Telelogic and is expected to add it to its Rational Software unit when the deal is completed by the end of the year.
Support for DOD standards
With the product updates, System Architect 11.0 now supports two federal defense standards: the Defense Department's Core Architecture Data Model (CADM) and Defense Architecture Framework (DODAF) Version 1.5.
Support for CADM gives agencies the means to comply with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Instruction 6212.01D. System Architect generates CADM-compliant Extensible Markup Language to streamline the export of architecture data from the software's repository into the DOD Architecture Repository System.
Support for DODAF gives developers the ability to model capabilities and services as a first step toward developing a network-centric architecture, company officials said. New diagrams, definition types, matrices and reports that comply with DODAF Version 1.5 are included.
The System Architect and Visio integration lets business analysts use Visio to more easily access and analyze architecture data to ensure that IT development is aligned with business goals and processes.
Tighter integration between System Architect 11.0 and Tau 4.0 brings together the worlds of enterprise architecture and model-driven development for IT solutions. Tau users now have full access to the System Architect repository, which gives them a common structure for the collection and dissemination of information and improved analysis and development. For example, business services in System Architect can be translated into technical services in Tau for implementation of a SOA strategy, Telelogic officials said.
System Architect pricing starts at $5,995 per concurrent user. Pricing for the System Architect/Process Integrator (Visio add-on) is $1,295 per node and is installed into Visio, not System Architect.
The System Architect/Tau integration is provided to Telelogic users at no charge. Tau pricing starts at $5,995 per concurrent user. The Tau/Validator is available as an option, with prices starting at $6,295 per node.
