DISA's Croom, agency leaders recognized

AFFIRM has named Lt. General Charles E. Croom Jr., DISA director, as the recipient of its 2008 Executive Leadership Award for Information Technology Management.
A leading group supporting government information technology, AFFIRM, today named Lt. General Charles E. Croom Jr., director of the Defense Information Systems Agency, as this year's recipient of its annual Executive Leadership Award for Information Technology Management.
Croom, who is also commander, Joint Task Force'Global Network Operations, heads up a worldwide organization of 6,600 military and civilian personnel responsible for providing interoperable command, control, communications, computers and information systems in support of Defense Department operations. The award recognized Croom's outstanding leadership and management record in government.
Croom will be retiring next month, after a 35-year career that began as an Air Force ROTC graduate and included four commands, and variety of senior level Pentagon assignments.
He was one of several executives to be recognized for outstanding leadership in a variety of categories by the Association for Federal Information Resources Management at its annual leadership awards function, held in Washington, D.C. Other award winners included:
- Industry: Curt Kolcun, vice president, Federal Division, Microsoft Corp.
- Acquisition and Procurement: Mary Parks, director, Small Business Solutions Development Center, Federal Acquisition Service, GSA; and Scott Denniston, director, Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, Department of Veteran Affairs.
- e-Government: Nancy Sternberg, program manager, Business Gateway Initiative, Small Business Administration; and Christine Liu, chief information officer, Small Business Administration.
- Service to the Citizen: Martha Dorris, deputy associate administrator for citizen services, Office of Citizen Services and Communications, GSA.
- Service to the Country: Dale Meyerrose (USAF, Maj Gen., retired), associate director of national intelligence and chief information officer, Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
- Information Technology Security: Ned Goldberg, associate director for information security, chief information security officer, Federal Deposit Insurance Company.
