Epson unveils a line of photo-quality printers aimed at the professional who takes work home.

Epson has unveiled a line of ink-jet all-in-one photo printers designed for photo enthusiasts and professionals who bring work home.

The Artisan 800 and Artisan 700 series printers feature Wi-Fi and Ethernet networking capabilities and ultra-high definition Claria ink for photos.

The printers also let users design photo layouts with an array of different-size photos on a single sheet of paper. Users can print directly onto CDs and DVDs and make personal notepaper using a photo as the background. The printers also can turn plain paper into college-ruled or graph paper.

The printers have 7.8-inch touch panels and 3.5-inch LCDs. Their multifunction features include faxing capabilities, automatic document feeders and the capability to turn photos or drawings into coloring book pages.

Users can copy, enlarge, rotate, crop and print photos without a computer.

The Claria ink is water resistant and resists fading up to four times longer than photo lab prints, Epson officials said.

'Smart' nozzles in Epson's MicroPiezo print head deliver up to five ink droplet sizes, starting as small as 1.5 picoliters, which produce smooth gradations and accurate skin tones, the company said.

The Artisan printers have ranked faster than similar printers in their class, producing prints and copies in black and color in up to 38 pages per minute, and an 8-by-10-inch photo in 50 seconds, Epson said.

The Artisan 800 sells for about $300; the Artisan 700 for $200.
