The company also announced a flurry of enhancements to its software and hardware portfolio.
Hewlett-Packard announced the release of the HP 4410t mobile thin client today. Unlike a typical notebook PC, the device doesn’t store data locally, so there’s no risk of sensitive information getting into the wrong hands, HP officials said.
The HP 4410t “leverages HP engineering and design expertise to deliver true notebook performance that customers can deploy in the office or in the field,” said Carol Hess-Nickels, director of marketing in the Notebook Global Business Unit in HP’s Personal Systems Group.
In addition, the 4410t:
- Weighs 4.3 pounds.
- Comes with a 14-inch diagonal widescreen, mercury-free, LED display.
- Has a full-size, spill-resistant keyboard and integrated touch pad.
- Has a battery that can recharge to 90 percent capacity in 90 minutes.
- Is more than 90 percent recyclable.
The company also announced the release of desktop thin clients that meet the new Energy Star Version 5.0 specifications. They include the HP t5145, HP t5540, HP t5545, HP t5630 and HP t5630w.
Regarding its software portfolio, the company said it now offers Microsoft’s latest embedded operating system, Windows Embedded Standard with Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1, which uses the security and enterprise management technologies from Windows Server 2008.
The company also introduced the HP Privacy Filter, which narrows the viewing angle of the display screen so that anybody trying to look over the user’s shoulder will see only a dark, blank screen. Furthermore, the HP Device Manager and HP Client Automation tools help information technology managers deploy, configure and manage software. The company is also the only vendor that offers an optional DVD-ROM drive with its mobile thin clients, officials said.
The HP 4410t mobile thin client is scheduled to go on sale in mid-July for $549. HP thin clients that meet the Energy Star 5.0 specifications are available now, but they won’t sport the Energy Star logo until early July. Prices start at $199
