Dell introduces rugged tablet
Connecting state and local government leaders
The Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet is designed for mobile users in the military, public safety and emergency response.
Dell added its first tablet to its rugged portfolio. The Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet is designed for military, public safety and emergency-response mobile users and can survive water spills, sand and dust, drops from over four feet and extreme temperatures.
The Rugged Tablet comes with solid state storage up to 512GB, a fifth-generation Intel Core M processor and connectivity via 802.11ac Wi-Fi as well as an optional mobile broadband and dedicated GPS. It runs Windows 7 Professional or Windows 8.1 Pro.
The 11.6 inch outdoor-readable HD display has gloved-enabled multi-touch capabilities. With a customizable RGB backlight, users can switch between red, green, blue and white lighting, allowing the keyboard to remain visible but unobtrusive. A stealth key turns off all lights and sounds with a single touch.
For peak performance in severe temperatures, the tablet comes with fourth-generation QuadCool thermal management. All entry points are sealed by compression gaskets and a dual-knife-edge design that’s certified for IP-65 protection from sand, dust and liquid. The Rugged Tablet has up to 12 hours of battery life with two dual-cell batteries.
The tablet also comes with a durable pogo-pin docking interface, to facilitate use in vehicles and traditional workspaces. The optional full-size keyboard cover for the Rugged Tablet has a customizable RGB backlight and an IP-65 rating to protect against water and dust intrusion.
The Dell Rugged portfolio also includes the Latitude 12 Rugged Extreme flip-hinge convertible notebook, the Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme notebook and the Latitude 14 Rugged notebook.
“Dell Rugged devices are critical to many industries including military, emergency response, public safety, industrial work, scientists and even adventurers,” said Drew Moore, executive director and general manager, Rugged Mobility Products at Dell. "It’s important for Dell’s Latitude Rugged devices to provide superior computing power and the mobile capabilities they require to accomplish their jobs."
The Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet will be available by the end of July.
