COVID dashboard helps state and local leaders plan for reopening
Connecting state and local government leaders
Maps and red-yellow-green indicators for key indicators give decision-makers a structured understanding of how a state or county is performing.
To help public and private-sector leaders navigate the nation’s reopening, the COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition has launched the COVID-19 Decision Support Dashboard. It provides red-yellow-green indicators for key areas to give decision-makers a structured understanding of how a state or county is performing.
Inspired by criteria outlined in the National Governors Association’s Roadmap to Recovery Report, the free web-based dashboard displays COVID-19 virus reproduction rates, confirmed case growth and decline along with mortality trends, mobility data to indicate social distancing and forecasts of medial capacity. Simple visualizations display state- and county-level data with maps and red-yellow-green stoplight indicators. The dashboard is driven by publicly available data from nearly a dozen sources, including Kaiser Family Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Governors, mayors and business leaders can customize their dashboards to display regional areas of interest and can compare counties to see the implications of policy changes over time, coalition officials said.
“The real value of this data is its potential to inform and help guide the best possible decisions through these critical next phases of pandemic recovery,” said Dr. Jay Schnitzer, MITRE’s chief technology and medical officer and co-chair of the coalition. “Realizing that not everyone is an expert in interpreting public health data, the red-yellow-green icons provide a quick and easy way to track key metrics.”
The dashboard is the latest tool launched by the COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition, a private-sector-led response bringing together health care organizations, technology firms, nonprofits, academia and startups.
The coalition has previously released the NPI Dashboard, which provides real-time tracking of nonpharmaceutical Interventions, otherwise known as community mitigation strategies, such as mandatory masks and restaurant closures. It has also issued guidance for N95 respirator decontamination, assessments of 3D-printed masks and is working with the Mayo Clinic to launch and manage a national convalescent plasma trial.
The coalition’s 275 pandemic-related data sources and tools are available at C19HCC.org.
