Navigator Award Finalist: Team From Results Washington, State of Washington
Connecting state and local government leaders
In the Evergreen State, the Results Washington team is measuring government performance and improving the way services are provided—and letting the public see how they’re doing that in the process.
This is the 14th in a series of profiles on the 50 finalists for Route Fifty’s Navigator Awards program. The first 10 finalists were from the Government Allies and Cross-Sector Partners category. When it comes to measuring the performance of state agencies, the services they deliver and impact they have on citizens and the communities they live in, it’s important to put that information out in front of the public instead of letting it collect dust in a paper report or PDF that few will read. The operation that’s devoted to improving Washington state government performance, Results Washington, puts that data on a dashboard to make it easily accessible to citizens in the Evergreen State and beyond. The site also features case studies and videos.
The initiative spans different areas of state government, using Lean management principles to achieve results, including the following:
- Faster customer service at the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board and Department of Enterprise Services.
- Better response times for public records requests at the Department of Licensing, Department of Financial Institutions and the Washington State Department of Transportation.
- Improved workplace safety in the custodial service division at the Department of Enterprise Services.
- A larger number of government datasets available to the public.
Results are focused on a handful of core principles laid out by the administration of Gov. Jay Inslee, including world-class education, a prosperous economy, sustainable energy and a clean environment, healthy and safe communities, and efficient, effective and actionable government.
Route Fifty is pleased to name the team from Results Washington as Navigator Award finalists. (Editor's Note: Wendy Korthuis-Smith, the director of Results Washington who was originally nominated, recently left the agency for a consulting position at Deloitte.)
