Route Fifty Roadshow Heads to Seattle

Join us for a conversation with the mayors of Anchorage, Grand Rapids and San José, whose cities are part of the Daniel Rose Center for Leadership’s 2017 fellowship program.
SEATTLE — When your specialty is covering U.S. state and municipal government, it’s always great to gather leaders from seemingly very different places from around the nation in one spot to discuss their common challenges so you can better understand how their impacts are being felt and exchange ideas that can help lead to innovative solutions.
That’s what we’re doing here in the Pacific Northwest’s largest city, which is the second stop of the Route Fifty Roadshow, which kicked off in Denver last month.
On Tuesday evening, I’ll be moderating a group discussion with the mayors of Anchorage, Grand Rapids and San José, which are three of four 2017 Daniel Rose Center for Leadership’s Fellowship cities. That program is jointly run by the National League of Cities and the Urban Land Institute, which is hosting its spring meetings in Seattle this week.
Each year, the Rose Center works with four cities to lend technical expertise and insights regarding specific local land-use planning challenges. Ahead of the event, “Equity and Resiliency in America’s Cities,” Route Fifty has been rolling out features on each city—Anchorage, Grand Rapids, San José and Washington, D.C.
In addition to the three mayors—Ethan Berkowitz of Anchorage, Rosalynn Bliss of Grand Rapids and San Liccardo of San José—we will also chat with Kathy Nyland, the director of Seattle’s Office of Neighborhoods.
