Agencies that collect scientific and technical information now give visitors to <a href="http://www.science.gov">science.gov</a> access to more than 1,000 government data resources.

An alliance of 10 federal agencies that collect scientific and technical information have expanded science.gov, adding more databases and technical resources to the Web site that first went live as a pilot in April.

The site provides access to more than 1,000 government information resources, said an alliance representative. CENDI, an interagency working group of senior managers in government science and technology programs, coordinates the science.gov project.

Eleanor Frierson, deputy director of the National Agricultural Library and co-chairwoman of the science.gov Alliance, said the Commerce Department, Energy Department and Geological Survey teamed up to host the site and provide its search tools.

Energy's Office of Scientific and Technical Information hosts the site and provides advanced search capabilities. USGS provides the basic Web page search capability, and the National Technical Information Service supports subject searches for science.gov.

The alliance's member agencies and their participating bureaus are:


  • The Agriculture Department and its National Agricultural Library


  • Commerce and its National Institute of Standards and Technology and National Technical Information Service


  • The Defense Department and its Defense Technical Information Center


  • The Education Department and the National Library of Education


  • Energy and its Office of Scientific and Technical Information

  • The Health and Human Services Department and its Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health and National Library of Medicine


  • The Interior Department and its Geological Survey and National Biological Information Infrastructure


  • The Environmental Protection Agency and its Office of Environmental Information and Office of R&D


  • NASA and its Scientific and Technical Information Program


  • The National Science Foundation.
