Red Hat puts Linux into the OpenStack cloud
Connecting state and local government leaders
Company combines its Enterprise Linux with OpenStack to give organizations a Linux option for building their clouds.
Red Hat, one of the most popular flavors of Linux, is taking steps to allow users to move into the cloud.
The company’s newly announced projects include Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, which will serve as the foundation for advanced cloud users who are seeking to build an OpenStack-powered cloud, and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, a comprehensive set of tools designed to support organizations on their journey from traditional data center virtualization to OpenStack-powered clouds.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform combines Red Hat Enterprise Linux with the OpenStack cloud platform for building a private or public cloud. Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure helps organizations implement an Infrastructure-as-a-Service for traditional applications as well as for emerging cloud-aware applications.
This could be good news for government agencies running Linux applications who need to move to the cloud as part of the administration's cloud-first mandate.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform is a single subscription offering that includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server. That part of the new offering provides a secure and certified foundation for running the OpenStack workload servers as well as a scalable, high performance Linux operating system for guest virtual machines. It also includes Red Hat OpenStack, which will provide a highly scalable, fault-tolerant platform optimized for and integrated with Red Hat Enterprise Linux for the development of a managed private or public cloud for cloud-enabled workloads.
Using Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform allows advanced users to develop and deploy production OpenStack infrastructure and concentrate on adding value in the service layer, tooling and customizations they need on top of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform foundation, the company said, while trusting Red Hat to maintain the integrity of both the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and OpenStack code.
Additionally, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform offers several enterprise-grade features to allow organizations to deploy with the support of SELinux military-grade security.
Both Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure will be available in July.
