Forward! by Unisys ready for mission-critical app migration
Connecting state and local government leaders
Based on secure partitioning technology, the fabric-based platform offers secure containers for application workloads running on Intel-based servers.
Government agencies looking to move mission critical systems to consolidated data centers or secure cloud environments now have another option. Forward! by Unisys, a fabric-based computing platform that runs on Intel-based servers is now available, Unisys officials report.
Fabric computing refers to a high-performance computing system with loosely coupled storage, networking and parallel processing functions linked by high-bandwidth connections. The Forward! platform uses Unisys' advanced secure partitioning (s‑Par) software technology to create a secure container of dedicated resources for each application workload. Secure partitions can be connected through in-memory connections on a single server and through high-speed secure InfiniBand connections across multiple servers.
Forward! provides the functionality of mature legacy systems like Unix and mainframe environments on an Intel Xeon platform. The Forward! fabric is also integrated with the Unisys Stealth solution, a software-based security system that cloaks communication end points, applications and servers, making them invisible to unauthorized users inside and outside the enterprise. Access is based on identity through Stealth secure communities of interest so that security moves with the user and not with the device, Unisys officials said. Data is also protected while in motion by encrypting and parsing the data.
Forward! by Unisys is ideal for running secure cloud and big data workloads, boosting the performance of enterprise resource planning applications such as SAP, addressing server sprawl by consolidating data center resources and migrating from legacy systems that use the Unix operating environment, company officials said.
To help organizations realize the value of the Forward! platform, Unisys is offering extensive consulting services, including data center transformation planning, design and implementation, as well as services for Unix-to-Linux applications migration, ERP applications and platform migration and data center consolidation.
