MobileIron updates Docs@Work to secure personal cloud
Connecting state and local government leaders
Docs@Work lets users access, annotate and share enterprise content regardless of location, in a variety of cloud repositories, while providing IT a centralized way to secure and manage mobile content and device policies.
MobileIron released the latest version of its Docs@Work secure content hub that addresses what the company says is the most persistent security challenge facing public and private sector enterprises today: the personal cloud.
Docs@Work lets users access, annotate and share enterprise content regardless of location, and in a variety of enterprise or personal cloud repositories, while providing IT a centralized way to secure and manage mobile content and device policies.
Data loss controls are set by IT to protect documents from unauthorized distribution, while end users can be more productive with integrated editing capabilities. Docs@Work controls whether third-party apps can access stored documents and uses policies and permissions set in MobileIron Core.
The new Docs@Work app is a standalone application that includes the ability to:
- Connect natively to cloud services like Box, Dropbox, Microsoft Office 365 (SharePoint Online), and Microsoft OneDrive Pro.
- Search, view, download, and save documents across the user’s preferred on-premise and cloud repositories.
- Edit both locally on the device and remotely through an integrated browser.
The latest version of Docs@Work expands access to popular cloud-based repositories like Office 365, Dropbox, OneDrive Pro and Box. The app is also now available for iPad, iPhone and Android tablets and smartphones.
“In a mobile world it’s difficult for IT to define all the tools that are used by employees to be productive on mobile devices,” said Chris Hazelton, research director, enterprise mobility, 451 Research. “Among companies where IT bans the installation of consumer apps, 44 percent of employees have installed or are interested in installing consumer apps outside of company policies.”
For IT managers, Docs@Work creates a secure content hub that can wipe documents when a user or device falls out of compliance and blocks clipboard actions for enterprise content. It gives mobile users access to SharePoint content and administrators the ability to establish appropriate mobile policies for SharePoint.
Administrators can also push content to a user's device. All content is securely stored, synchronized and available for offline viewing. Admins can choose which content or repository locations should be distributed, based on a variety of device and user attributes, such as enterprise directory group membership.
“The personal cloud has become the center of our digital lives, and, like it or not, enterprise information now lives everywhere,” said Ojas Rege, Vice President Strategy, MobileIron. “Users demand best-of-breed mobile productivity solutions and, many times, those are actually consumer services. CIOs must implement an architecture that provides consistent security and policy across business and consumer services to enable their employees to use the tools and workflows that make them most productive.”
