Justice, CFPB moving services to the cloud
Connecting state and local government leaders
Under contracts with Unisys, Justice will consolidate its reference services in a common secure cloud platform, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will have access to low cost, scalable IT resources from Amazon Web Services.
The Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) will move its National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) to a secure cloud and provide shared web services managed through a common web content management system.
The project will enable customers seeking information from the OJP to browse available resources without navigating through multiple websites with disparate layouts.
Under a contract with Unisys, OJP will centralize NCJRS web-based services on a common secure cloud platform, including infrastructure, applications, content and publishing processes, in order to reduce costs and duplicative processes. The project is designed to give citizens and justice and law enforcement workers access to information and services anywhere, anytime and on any device, Unisys said in its announcement.
The OJP uses NCJRS systems to provide program awareness and technical assistance to federal, state, local and tribal justice agencies and to provide a clearinghouse for criminal justice information.
"Unisys' history as a leading provider of IT support services to the Department of Justice, as well as a provider of mobile apps to government and commercial organizations, uniquely positions us to help OJP upgrade the NCJRS program," said Venkatapathi "PV" Puvvada, acting president, Unisys Federal Systems.
Unisys was also recently selected to provide Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud solutions and services to help the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) meet public demand for consumer safety information, while accommodating the growing use of mobile devices and other emerging technologies.
Unisys will serve as program manager under the contract, providing licensing, advisory support and optional consulting services to help the agency fully leverage the capabilities of the AWS Cloud. Unisys also will provide billing services, quality control and roadmaps for projects running on AWS products and services.
"The CFPB has an important public service mission, which we are pleased to support with cloud services that can help lower costs and allow the CFPB to scale when needed," said Max Peterson, general manager of partners, capture and contracts, worldwide public sector, Amazon Web Services.
