Dell updates cloud tool with security analytics, social ID
Connecting state and local government leaders

Dell unveiled a new version of its Cloud Access Manager (CAM), an access management tool that taps a new security analytics engine to streamline access to internal and cloud-based web applications and OpenID Connect-compliant mobile apps.
CAM 8.0 offers centralized authentication, single sign-on and ID management, enabling organizations to move away from managing multiple directories and instead connect user directories and applications via a centralized authentication hub.
The tool addresses a number of enterprise pain points, according to Dell. For instance, organizations often have a highly diverse user population, as well as partners and customers who need access but are outside the IT department’s control. They also require instant, always-on and secure access to a variety of applications that are on-premises, cloud-based and mobile.
With CAM, a single log-in event can create sessions across multiple web applications, hosted locally or by software-as-a-service vendors. CAM also enables adaptive security, just-in-time cloud provisioning, secure ID federation and single sign on, according to Dell.
Dell said CAM 8.0 uses the company’s new Security Analytics Engine to give organizations greater control of their web-based and mobile application access within the organization.
“To maintain secure access at all times, it is critical for IT to have a view of the context surrounding access activities, including access policies, time of day and manageability of the device,” said John Milburn, executive director of identity and access management for Dell Security.
“When changes in context occur, access security can be adapted in real time,” he said, giving its customers “a powerful view of the access activities across their organization. The [organization] can ensure access is appropriate every time, all the time, and users can focus on being productive.”
New features in Cloud Access Manager 8.0 include:
Security Analytics Engine performs run-time risk evaluations that help organizations scale security based on situational context.
Social authentication further addresses user password fatigue for customers who wish to enable single sign-on through a user’s social media properties, including Google, Microsoft Live ID, Facebook and Twitter.
OpenID Connect support enables support for modern web and mobile applications using this identity protocol based on OAuth 2.0.
Microsoft Certification. Cloud Access Manager has been validated by Microsoft as part of its “Works with Office 365” Identity Partner Program.
