Jim Douglas announced last month.Siss has more than 25 years of management experience, including contract negotiation, vendor oversight and customer relationship management, according to the governor's office. She replaces Patricia Urban.'Robin has great experience negotiating contracts and handling IT vendors,' Douglas said. 'Her experience in customer relationship management will be key in shaping our new IT group into a proficient provider of customer service to other state employees and to state residents.'The appointment of a high-level CIO and the creation of a new department have been among Douglas' highest priorities, the Republican governor said.State legislators overwhelmingly supported the new IT department in the last legislative session, he said.. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement last month awarded a $37.4 million contract to Science Applications International Corp. to design an integrated criminal history system.SAIC will build a system that integrates several functions handled by systems that don't interoperate. The system will run a database combining both criminal history information and fingerprint information.'This system will provide enhanced accessibility of information to Florida criminal justice agencies, including expert fingerprint matching for rapid identification, improved disposition information with arrests, and new rap sheet presentations, including facial images,' said to Daryl McLaughlin, interim commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.Design, development, integration and testing will be done in SAIC's Orlando, Fla., offices.The initial operational capability version of the system is scheduled for October 2004 and the full version should be completed by December 2005, according to SAIC.. Montgomery Water Works Sanitary and Sewer Board in Montgomery, Ala., is using enterprise asset and computerized maintenance management services from Synergen Inc. of Walnut Creek, Calif., to administer its water and sewer facilities. The board oversees water production and pollution control for about 250,000 people over a 150-square-mile area in Montgomery. The software will help the board manage three water treatment plants, four wastewater treatment plants, seven elevated storage tanks, thousands of pieces of equipment, and 1,000 miles of water main lines and sewer mains. The asset management system is designed to handle maintenance of these physical assets, streamline cost reporting and work management processes, and notify the organization to do preventive maintenance that is intended to reduce costs.
