Eight IT projects get kudos for excellence

Two Quicksilver initiatives were among six federal and two state and local IT projects to receive Showcase of Excellence awards today at FOSE 2004 in Washington.
Two Quicksilver initiatives were among six federal and two state and local IT projects to receive Showcase of Excellence awards today at FOSE 2004 in Washington.
A team of CIOs, chief financial officers, procurement executives and chief human capital officers honored Grants.gov and Disaster Management.
The committee nominated 10 finalists and selected two winners in each of the four categories: e-government, Defense, homeland security, and state and local.
'Remember this is about results, and all of you have demonstrated results today,' said Karen Evans, Office of Management and Budget administrator for IT and e-government.
E-government winners:
- Grants.gov consolidates information on more than 900 grants programs and provides citizens with an easy way to find and apply for the opportunities. Charles Havekost, Grants.gov project manager, said the portal is a great way to make government work better for citizens.
- The Education Department's Student Aid on the Web portal integrates information about college selection, admissions and student aid .
Defense winners:
- The Navy Enterprise Portal lets IT managers integrate systems resources.
- The Defense Department's Standard Procurement System automates procurement processes for all DOD organizations.
Homeland security winners:
- The Disaster Management portal, also one of OMB's 25 e-government projects, provides one-stop access for disaster-related information and services as well as a communication and collaboration area for first responders.
- The Justice Department's Regional Information Sharing System lets 6,800 state, local and federal law enforcement agencies nationwide share information and coordinate on projects.
State and local winners:
- The Richmond, Va., Citizens' Request System lets Richmond residents order services online.
- The District of Columbia's Tax and Revenue Integrated Tax System modernizes and automates much of the D.C. tax processing.
