Researchers at the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Stations and the Mississippi State Extension Service have access via the Internet to 70 agriculture science journals at the National Agricultural Library.The federal Agriculture Department also is giving students and faculty at Mississippi State University in Starkville access to the journals, which were not previously available electronically through MSU libraries.The journals are tagged with a special icon and are available through the libraries' electronic journals A-Z list maintained on the library Web site. Users click on the MSU Digi-Top Plus icon and are automatically linked to the full text, licensed through the National Agricultural Library.The Agricultural Library and MSU are working with Ebsco Information Services of Birmingham, Ala., to license electronic access to journals and databases and to integrate the Agricultural Library's Agricola database with the electronic resources available at MSU.. The Ohio Department of Administrative Services this month awarded a contract to Dynamics Research Corp. of Andover, Mass., to develop and implement an automated Web child welfare information system.The company will perform the work for the Department of Job and Family Services under a $30 million contract with a 3 1/2-year base period and a one-year option.The company will begin work on the system later this month. The new statewide system will provide a centralized database for use by state and county officials to track children in their care. It will provide agencies with real-time access to critical information to help them protect children and provide needed services to their families.The system will use Java 2 Enterprise Edition Web services. DRC will provide analysis, design, development and implementation support. Subcontractor Compuware Corp. of Detroit will conduct software development and data conversion.. The National Association of State CIOs has picked former Wyoming Gov. Jim Geringer for the group's National Technology Champion Award, citing his work promoting IT policy beyond the state's borders.Geringer received the award last month during NASCIO's midyear conference in Chicago.During his two terms, Geringer was an outspoken advocate for the use of technology to enhance government services. He elevated the visibility of government technology by emphasizing the benefits of integrated service delivery and enterprise solutions, NASCIO said.Geringer served as Wyoming's governor from 1994 to 2003. He also was chair of the Washington-based National Governors Association's Technology Task Force.
