Route Fifty Wins 2016 Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Website
Connecting state and local government leaders
“I’m honored that our hard work, high-quality journalism and sharp-looking website have been recognized by the judges,” says Executive Editor Michael Grass.
NEW YORK — Route Fifty may be less than a year old but the Washington, D.C.-based Government Executive Media Group’s news publication focused on state and local government is making a big impact, winning a major journalism award for editorial excellence late last week.
During a luncheon hosted at Pier 60 on the Hudson River waterfront on Friday, Executive Editor Michael Grass accepted a 2016 Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Website on behalf of Route Fifty’s editorial staff.
Created by Connectiv, the Business Information Association, in 1955, the Neal Awards honor editorial excellence in business publications.
According to the Jesse H. Neal Awards:
Entries are submitted in one of three classifications, based upon the publication's gross advertising and circulation revenue; some categories had no revenue classification.
All entries go through a two-tiered screening process in order to reach the final judging. The Stage I Screening Board is composed of more than 150 experienced business media editors. The highest-scoring entries are passed on to the Stage II Screening Panel, composed of past and present members of the Connectiv Editorial & Content Committee, which pares the entries down to four per category for final judging. The Board of Judges, 12 to 18 professionals knowledgeable in all aspects of business journalism, makes the final decisions. Entries are scored in three areas: journalistic enterprise, extent of service to the field and editorial craftsmanship.
“As we gear up to mark Route Fifty’s first anniversary this month, I’m honored that our hard work, high-quality journalism and sharp-looking website have been recognized by the judges,” Grass said. “We have a great team at Route Fifty and the Government Executive Media Group and we’re excited to continue to build our audience across state, county and municipal governments across the nation.”
Beyond Route Fifty, all of the news publications from Atlantic Media’s Government Executive Media Group —Government Executive, Nextgov and Defense One—were named 2016 finalists in different Neal categories.
Aliya Sternstein, a senior correspondent for Nextgov, won a Neal Award for Best News Coverage award for her reporting on the Office of Personnel Management hack.
