The Virginia Beach, Va., police this month tested FaceIt facial recognition software from Identix Inc. of Minneapolis. Three surveillance cameras located on Atlantic Avenue sent video images of beachgoers' faces over fiber-optic cable to a control room for comparison against a database of 2,500 digital images of suspected criminals and runaways, deputy police chief Greg Mullen said.
