The Justice Department is preparing two requests for proposals for new software under the Case Management Line of Business Consolidation.

The Justice Department by Sept. 30 will release two requests for proposals under the Case Management Line of Business Consolidation.

Justice is conducting market research and analyzing performance-based requirements in preparation for releasing the procurements, said a government official who requested anonymity.

The FBI and Homeland Security Department will release the first RFP this summer for commercial investigative system software.

Justice itself will contract for litigation-support software before the end of the fiscal year, Sept. 30. The department's CIO office and the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, which are co-leading the effort, want common applications that all Justice attorneys can use. The official said the project team plans to award two contracts by December 2006.

The project team is now defining system requirements and a target architecture, which will include components that other agencies can reuse, the official said.

Justice also is developing a common architecture for administrative systems, which likely will not come about until the project team has progressed further with the investigative and litigation systems.

The Case Management Line of Business effort seeks to improve sharing of case-related information within and between Justice bureaus and other agencies.

Justice released a request for information last September for software to manage case leads, evidence, resource allocation, documents, federal records and workflow as well as intelligence processing [see GCN coverage].
